I am now preparing for the most important day of my life. No, this is not a contest, well, maybe to my husband it is! I am 13 weeks pregnant with my first child. The flood of emotions is almost indescribable. But don’t worry, this isn’t the rosy, every day of pregnancy is to be celebrated kind of blog. The constant nausea is definitely getting in the way of that. I was convinced I would be a total rock star at this preggo thing. I live an extremely healthy lifestyle, eat nutritious food and workout regularly. My plans included nutritious meals, great workouts and 2 gallons of water! Well, my “Mini Strone” as we call the baby, definitely had other plans.
Right at about six weeks, the laundry list of symptoms started. Not too glamorous, but nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, moodiness, raging hormones... I experienced the text book of possible symptoms. I would also love to say that my nutrition was perfect, but if we are being honest, I lived off of saltines, toast and applesauce. Some days, drinking water was hard. When do the fun cravings start? Applesauce does not count as a food craving. Seriously, preggo gods?
Luckily, or unluckily I guess, this all started over my Christmas vacation. So exercise was getting out of bed to eat a piece of toast.
The hardest part was feeling alone. My parents and husband were and continue to be incredible, but it was too soon to share the news with my friends and extended family. And then the bump arrived… way earlier than expected. As I read every possible piece of information, most women talk about not showing until 16, sometimes 20 weeks. Not this little girl. I guess when you are petite like me, there is nowhere for baby to go. Despite the baby being only the size of a green olive, at just 9 weeks I popped! Trying to hide it was an even greater challenge. Unbuttoned pants, big scarves and baggy sweaters may not be trendy, but I did my best to look presentable at work. Thank goodness Pittsburgh weather was below freezing, so it wasn’t strange that I was wearing sweatshirts to the gym!
I am finally feeling better and changes are happening daily! Please follow along and share in my amazing journey. With my usual honest candor, I will share my struggles, victories and overall experiences that only pregnancy has to offer!
Thank you to TEAM HMB for all of the support, I couldn’t ask for more in a Fitness Family!
