It’s been kind of a roller coaster ride since my last blog. Competition wise, I served as the MC of Kansas Strongest man, and as head judge for NAHA nationals. Both were well run competitions, and I was honored to be a part of them.
Training wise, I have been rehabbing a few injuries, with the intentions of getting back to compete in the ASC Nationals. Well, I had 3 of the 4 injuries pretty close to healed (still cannot figure out this pesky elbow). I had 2 great weeks of training for nationals and thought I'd be able to give it a good run. Unfortunately, I tore the MCL in my left leg, so I will be unable to compete. I struggle with lifting anything from the ground and moving with any weight.
They say when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. So I have been going hard on anything I can do to work around the knee. I have been working hard on heavy strict overhead movements (where I am working back into the 300 pound range) and heavy pulls (hit a partial deadlift PR of 1040 just a week ago). With this type of heavy lifting, recovery is imperative. That is where my HMB plays a major roll. Besides the knee (and of course that pesky elbow) the body feels great. I am considering doing a USAWA meet in a couple weeks that consists primarily of partial movements, which I am doing well on right now. So until next time, continue to lift heavy. I know I will.
