Less Than One Week Away

Blog Article ImageWhen I go into the gym later today, it will mark my last workout before the biggest competition of my short powerlifting career.  When I say this I don’t mean this is the highest level of competition or the biggest stage I have been on, but the ramifications of this meet are immense.  If I am able to win the best overall lifter I will automatically qualify to represent team USA at next year’s World Games, a goal of mine since I started competing and something I never thought I would have the chance to do.

For the last fifteen plus weeks I have focused on getting my weight down to the new weight class of 264 and also getting stronger.  Even with the weight loss my I feel like I’m primed to hit bigger numbers in the squat and deadlift.  The only lift I’ve been struggling with a little is my bench, which has never been my strongest lift anyways.  Being able to drop weight and get stronger in two out of three of my lifts is not only because of my workouts, but being smart in my nutrition and supplementation.  Combining my HMB and 1st Phorm products have provided a way to fully recover between workouts, allowing my strength levels to increase.

This training cycle has been the longest prep I’ve ever done for a meet before.  I’ve stayed healthy through out and feel like I’m in for some big numbers.  It hasn’t all been easy though.  The gym I train in, Max Effort Strength & Conditioning, has had the air on the fritz during the summer.  Being from the Midwest, this meant some very hot training sessions.  One way to look at it though is you never know what conditions you’re going to be lifting in at an International meet, so hopefully I’ll be ready for anything.

I’ll be heading down a few days before my meet and am lifting on Saturday, July 28th.  If you want to check it out the meet will be streamed via the internet with the schedule of events.  You can find it at this link.

Shortly after this meet I’ll be deciding my next meets to focus on and will make sure to let everyone know in my next blog.  Until then, continue to lift hard and smart which means adding HMB to your supplement list.  You’ll be glad you did.
