As I have moved through my 20’s, 30’s and coming towards the end of my 40’s life has gotten much busier. At different times during the year my normal Monday, Wednesday, Friday lifting schedule has to become more flexible in order to get everything accomplished during the week. Currently I find myself right in the middle of another busy fall season. My daughters have kept me busy following their cross country and volleyball seasons. Section tournaments are now over and we have another week before we are into the winter sports season. Both of the girls had successful seasons that were directly the result of their hard work in the off season; both training with weights and practicing their disciplines. Now that there is a break between sports seasons we are back in the gym hitting it hard a couple days a week.
I have become more involved with the Southwest Minnesota State University Wrestling team. This includes helping set up the strength training program and participating with one or two strength training workouts/week. These workouts have been full of energy, and have given me another outlet to help athletes get stronger. I feel privileged to be able to help out. As you have read in previous blogs during the fall season…I really enjoy hunting. It is currently deer hunting season in Minnesota and I am still trying to harvest a deer. Nothing like some high quality venison to help meet the daily protein intake.
Time management and creativity are the key to training during busy times. Sometimes I have to double up and put two workouts together, or squat and bench at my regular training time when the guys are in the gym…..working in my assistance at a different time. Ideally my training cycle’s progress week to week in a very organized manner, but at times flexibility is the key. In my 20’s and 30’s I would never have been as flexible, but over time I have found a little flexibility and more rest is not the end of the world. I have found that doubling up on workouts at times gives me more rest for my next workout. I have always heard that wisdom comes with age???
Training has been going well despite my current busy life. I am getting stronger by the week and am currently getting ready for the GNC Pro Deadlift at the 2015 Arnold Classic. I am looking forward to getting back on the platform. Only four months to go so it is time to kick it in gear.
Train smart, stay healthy, set your goals high, and make sure to add GNC Pro Performance HMB to your supplement list.
