I have to say my 2012 was probably the slowest year of powerlifting since I have been competing, however I received two invites at the end of the year that will have my 2013 extremely busy.
The first one is what I’m training for now, the 2013 Arnold Classic. I’m competing in the GNC Pro Deadlift on Saturday. Training for this has had to be the hardest to date. With my work schedule and my two little boys, getting my lifting in has become a little harder. With that said I wouldn’t change any of it for the world.
I have limited time to train but am still getting my lifting in, which is going really good. My raw strength is probably at an all time high and I’m starting to get back into my gear to start handling the heavier weights.
Training for a deadlift only meet really hasn’t changed my lifting strategy at all. I’m actually training just like I would for a full meet. I’m aiming for a big number and hoping the training I do will lead to this.
I also was selected to represent Team USA at the 2013 World Games. This is a huge honor and training will begin as soon as the Arnold ends. Competing at the World Games will definitely be the pinnacle of my lifting career.
Going through this training cycle I am relying heavily on supplements to help me recover. This of course means keeping my HMB nearby. My sleep is getting harder to come by so I need all the help I can get.
Since I am getting into some heavier lifting, I will be posting some videos of training. Also make sure to check out the day in the life series of Team HMB athletes that are being put up all the time. Until then, continue to lift hard and smart which means adding HMB to your supplement list. You’ll be glad you did.
