It’s been quite the ride since I last stepped on stage! I was last seen on stage at North Americans in late 2014. I brought my leanest physique to date on that figure stage. I was lifting 6 days a week and doing HIIT (high intensity interval training) 4 times a week. I was exhausted and my body needed a break.
Since that figure show I’ve taken on a lot of modeling jobs and have gotten to work with some of the best photographers. I’ve literally had some of the most exciting times of my life in the fitness industry recently! I signed with The Naturally Fit Agency last year, graced the cover of Element’s Magazine, expanded my accounting business to work with fitness professionals and models, continued teaching at Muskingum University, partnered with a few different workout equipment companies, and I’ve recently just hooked up with ATX Bikini Company to model for them! Phew…that’s a lot of work in the past year!
I’m constantly being asked about when I’m stepping on stage again, or if at all. The answer to that isn’t clear at this time. I’m so busy with modeling and my business that it’s not in my cards at the moment. I stay lean and fit year round now. I don’t bulk up to gain muscle, in fact, over the past year if you have seen pictures of me; I have lost a lot of size (on purpose). I don’t have a need for boulder shoulders or gigantic quads anymore. I prefer my smaller figure! How did I get to where I am at then in terms of size?
I currently only lift 4 days a week and do cardio 2 days. I spend considerably much less time in the gym than before. However, my workouts are just as tough because I do a ton of plyometrics and incorporate higher intensity movements into my lifting schedule. This way my heart rate stays elevated and I’m in a fat burning state throughout my entire workout. I exchanged squats for box jumps and heavy dumbbell rows for light weight, high rep schemes. I don’t keep a specific regimen anymore either. For instance, in the past, Monday would always be back and shoulders and Tuesdays would always be legs. Now, I walk into the gym and have the freedom to work on any body part I want. It’s exhilarating and freeing at the same time. I do not feel trapped into a schedule of trying to fit shoulders or legs in twice a week. I am no longer constantly staring into the mirror wondering if my v-taper is big enough for the judges. I currently wouldn’t trade my new schedule and workouts for anything!
There are a few things that have not changed since last year. One of those would be my supplement routine using HMB. I need its recovery properties for different reasons now. My HIIT workouts and leg plyo days are no joke. HMB isn’t just for heavy lifters. It’s for anyone in fitness looking to recover faster and increase their endurance.
