Every year at the Arnold Sports Festival an array of talented athletes from all around the world come to Columbus, Ohio to compete in the International Pro Deadlift competition. This year was no different and Team HMB is very proud to have had 3 athletes who competed this year in the BetaTOR/PEAK ATP International Pro Deadlift: Bryan Dermody, Brad Gillingham, and Nick Weite.
Bryan Dermody recently tore two erectors in his back during training, but didn't want to disappoint so decided to step on the platform and give it his best. He ended the day 3 for 3 and with a pull of 727 lbs. Obviously, not a PR but an amazing performance for being injured. He will be competing next at the Pro Deadlift at the Empire Classic in May and is hoping for a full recovery before then and hopefully a new PR in the 800s.
This year was the 8th year that Brad Gillingham has competed in this event. Brad is still currently recovering from a blood clot he suffered in 2014. He went 3 for 3 on his lifts finishing with a pull of 755 lbs. Brad will also be competing next at the Pro Deadlift at the Empire Classic in May.
Nick Weite has been training hard for this event since competing in the IPF World Men's Open back in November. Nick's goal was to set a new PR in his deadlift and he did not disappoint! Nick went 3 for 3 on this lifts and set a new deadlift PR with a pull of 860 lbs. Nick was the pound for pound champion of the BetaTOR/PEAK ATP International Pro Deadlift and also took 3rd place in the Wilkes category. Congratulations to Nick on his amazing performance at the Arnold and we look forward to watching his 2015 unfold.
