I was introduced to HMB a few months back and at first I was unsure of the product. The product claimed that my performance would improve, my strength would increase, I would retain and even build more lean muscle and my recovery would be quicker. Seemed like a pretty typical supplement claim, but I gave it a chance and let me tell you their claim is spot on and HMB helped me stay on top of my game!!

I was honored to get a chance at trying out HMB. Once I got the product, I immediately started to use it. This was at the same time I was doing a major cut for a contest online.

 

When I started the cut, I was 190 lbs and about 8% bodyfat. When I ended the cut, I was 176 lbs and 4% bodyfat. So with that being said, the only thing I can contribute the lean gains from was the HMB, this was the only new thing I had introduced to my supplement list. Normally when I do a cut like this, I start around 180 and end up at 163. Well, as stated this time I was much bigger and carried a lot more mass.
Another factor is that during this cut, I never really lost much strength at all.

When I started taking HMB, I really wasn’t expecting much. I had read information online about what it claimed to do, but honestly, I wasn’t convinced it was the real deal… until I started taking it, correctly. I decided to give HMB a try after looking up valid studies on-line.  I've always been very scientific in my approach to maximize my muscle gains as a drug free bodybuilder. After reading the countless studies, and scientific data regarding HMB, I determined that whether or not I should try this product out was a no- brainer! There is just no way you can argue the effectiveness of this product after reviewing the documented studies that have been done on it. When I began using this product, I didn't notice anything instantly, however, after 3 weeks using this product I noticed a very impressive increase in my muscle recovery after workouts! Normally, some of my more brutal workouts, such as leg workouts for example, would leave me almost crippled for 3-4 days following an intense workout. Just as I was to the point in a race where you know you should be feeling like your legs want to slow down, your breathing patterns begin to toughen and you just wish it could get easier, it did!  Instead of feeling like I wanted to slow, I wanted and knew that I could push harder than ever before.  I was able to keep my pace, breathe deeper and use every ounce of oxygen that my body was giving me to the fullest extent…I was getting stronger and pushing harder.

Boxing can be brutal on your body.  From experience I can say my intense training has led to various chronic overtraining issues.  About two years ago, I almost stopped boxing and working out as a result of various overtraining problems. Training drug-free requires that tremendous attention be paid to recovery from training. Eating well and getting plenty of sleep don't get the job done when training at the load and volume that is needed to be successful in strength athletics. Being a Masters Track & Field athlete competing at the tender age of 37, I can truly say that some training days are tough and most other days are even tougher. As a sprinter competing in the 100 and 200 meters, daily workouts can be quite demanding. Every muscle from the neck down is being used to the fullest from start to finish. Onset muscle soreness, lactic acid buildup and fatigue; all lead to a less productive workout!


What can I say about HMB? This formula was first introduced to me by my weight lifting partner. At first he told me that he was taking something that has him lifting and exercising longer than he normally is used to. “Yeah right, I thought to myself.” His next comment was that I try this product for myself. I felt that it was just another gimmicky sugar tablet that just eats out of your wallet. Later I was fortunate enough to give HMB a try. At first a couple weeks went by using only the recommended dosage. The first thing that I did notice was that other people were commenting on a little bit of size that I had gained.


As usual, I was used to seeing myself everyday and did not take notice. However, out on the track there was a different story. Another running partner of mine was literally exhausted after a few reps of continuous 150 meter runs. I on the other hand was ready for more!


During a recent indoor meet with only two weeks of training after recovering from the flu, I managed to place second in the 55 meter dash at a time of 6.74. After being a little discouraged for second place, I later on found out that the time was the second fastest in the nation for Masters Track & Field ages 35-39!

I started taking HMB after the 2010 Arnold Classic.  I competed in the Mighty Mitts grip contest, and although I did okay in the contest, I was disappointed in my performance in a couple events.  I started training for the 2011 contest immediately after the event.  I have been training my grip 8-10 times a week, and have been training my entire body 3-6 times per week.  With 3 little girls, working full-time, and running two businesses from home, I don’t have much time to sit down and relax.

 

I currently take 2-4 grams of HMB daily.  When I first started taking HMB, I noticed that I had really good workouts on days I took the supplement.  Since ramping up my full body workouts to 6 times a week with daily HMB use, I have noticed better muscle and central nervous system recovery.  I feel that HMB has really helped in my quest to build the strongest grip in the world while maintaining my body weight in the 300-pound range through hard-core, full-body workouts.

I first used HMB in the early 90's as a 19 year old.  I didn't use many supplements back then, and my results were pretty much immediate, my strength and recovery improved substantially the first month.  Benefits continued on... Having just come off of my overall record setting win at the 2010 Military Powerlifting Nationals, I decided it was time to get back into my World Natural Bodybuilding Federation (WNBF) Pro-bodybuilder form.
 
So I started my new training and diet regime, and added in HMB supplementation as part of my regular program.  I lost 12 lbs and was down to 9 percent body fat.   It was the first time in 2 decades of contest prep that I have ever weighed over 200 lbs and had a body fat percentage in the single digits.  Even more impressive was the fact that the usual precipitous drop in strength with weight loss didn’t happen.   I am still able to bench 350+ for reps, squat a legal depth 551 and pulling 600 lb deadlifts at will.  I hadn’t planned to be at this level until mid-June.
 
I can honestly say that I am totally blown away by what this product has done for me.   It has kept the muscle, and has allowed me the freedom to stay lean and competitive in top level strength sports!   I not only highly recommend the use of HMB,  I whole heartedly encourage its use.
